Christoph Merian Stiftung

The purpose of the Christoph Merian Foundation, which was created in 1886, is to assist the needy and to promote a healthy environment, quality of life and culture in Basel.

The basis for its activities is provided by the assets bequeathed to it by Christoph Merian (1800 – 1858) and Margaretha Merian-Burckhardt (1806 – 1886). Only the income from those assets may be used for the Foundation’s diverse activities; the capital itself must be left intact.
