NAK Neuer Aachener Kunstverein

The NAK Neuer Aachener Kunstverein is a private non-profit association for contemporary art in the tradition of the German “Kunstverein” model. The institution of a “Kunstverein” and its significance is based on a more than 200 years lasting tradition in showing contemporary art in Germany.

The NAK programme represents a very current and reflective approach to international contemporary art. A central aim is to introduce the audience to new contents of art and new media production.

The NAK wants to point out changed positions and possibilities of art in today's present. It wants to present regional and international discourses, interconnect them and represent their internal connections. The NAK wants to reach a public, which understands art’s contemporary shank in the present and its role as initiator of changed perception and action options. This art institution would like to be an active opposite for artistic positions, which provoke diverse approaches: own experiences of the viewers, historical consciousness, cultural memory, individual and interdisciplinary positions. The NAK has made it its task for many years now to link its exhibition projects with one another by content. Between often very different artistic positions idealistic connections and ‘missing links’ are to be discovered, aiming to produce a formation of consciousness for the development of art and its different roles in the present. Contemporary art is not presented as an autonomous phenomenon of perception, but as a part of the present.
